Could you be losing three months of holidays over your career? The average UK worker is.

Vacation deprivation

Do you feel holiday-deprived? According to Expedia's annual Vacation Deprivation Report, workers in the UK will lose an average of 90 days of leave in a 45-year career.

The report is released annually and, in 2024, surveyed 11,580 people across Europe, the Americas, and Asia-Pacific. It reveals which parts of the world are making the most of their holiday allowances and who is leaving their holidays unused.

Almost half of workers in the UK do not use their entire leave allowance, but Expedia's study reveals that, on average, two leave days are left unused each year. This means that over the course of a 45-year career, Britons lose around three months of holiday time. But if losing three months of holidays makes you want to cry, spare a thought for our friends in Japan, who report foregoing seven days of leave per year or 315 days over a lifetime career. We don't know how they do it.

On a happier note, a vast majority of people across the globe, 85% in fact, feel more positive after they have used their holidays.
